Track: Packaging

Today's society and the planet demand designers to take clear and firm responsibility for all manner of consequences derived from the projects they undertake. The same goes for industry, business and government which must respectively take up this challenge, assume the costs, and pass strong regulations so that we designers, in a way that is neither traumatic nor heroic, can integrate packaging that is more accessible for individuals and societies with differing characteristics, and one committed to the planet and its well-balanced capacities. This round table is a Preview of the Design Seminars for All [Jornades Disseny per a Tothom] from the Official Graphic Design School of Catalonia [Col·legi Oficial de Disseny Gràfic de Catalunya].

Many myths are written about flexible packaging, but the reality based on scientific research is that it provides many advantages over other types of packaging. Less use of materials, more efficient transport, their barrier properties and improved Life Cycle Assessment are some of them.

We are living in a time of great changes in the world of packaging, motivated by factors such as: the redefinition of product categories, the response to the challenge of sustainability and the implementation of new technological tools. In this context, a new horizon is opening up for the sector, where the symbolic and functional value of Packaging as a complement to the product is no longer sufficient. Today, a new vision of the strategic value of packaging is creating a universe of opportunities for the development of new solutions.
