Hispack and Graphispag promote a fruitful sectoral reunion to accelerate sustainability

There was a desire to meet again at a trade fair, and Hispack and Graphispag, flagship events for the Spanish packaging and printing industries, have lived up to expectations by recapturing the atmosphere of the major industrial exhibitions. Machinery in operation, new products, professional contacts, order closures and high participation in the activities have characterised a fair with sustainability as the main priority for the two sectors. The two Fira de Barcelona fairs that closed their doors today at the Gran Via venue have brought together 725 direct exhibitors from around twenty countries and more than 30,000 visitors, 11% of them from abroad.

After four days of intensive activity, Hispack and Graphispag have left an excellent impression among the companies, speakers, international buyers and professionals. The two fairs, held at the same time, have jointly become one of the leading industrial events of the year in the Iberian market, one that’s highly rated for its increased commercial offer, its convening power and the visualisation of the synergies between packaging and printing, two essential industries in the country’s productive economy.

Sustainability has been the thematic axis of the two exhibitions, which have showcased solutions in technology, processes and materials to reduce the environmental footprint of packaging, wrapping and printed products. The current context, marked by the ongoing legislative changes to promote the circular economy, with a particular effect on packaging, is accelerating the implementation of these innovations. Digitisation and process automation, as demonstrated by the machines and equipment on display, are also focused on improving eco-efficiency, as well as companies’ productivity and competitiveness.

In this regard, there has been a higher attendance of manufacturing brands at Hispack, especially those from the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics sectors. In the case of Graphispag, graphic services companies and other sectors with printing needs have shown great interest in learning about more environment-friendly technologies, media, finishes and inks.

As a complement to the commercial products on offer, we should highlight the interest aroused by the 147-plus talks, sessions and round tables involving 322 speakers, held within the framework of Hispack and Graphispag. The above confirms the significant role played by the two fairs when it comes to promoting knowledge of trends and the specific results of the application of innovation in packaging and printing.

Jordi Bernabeu, the president of the Hispack organising committee, is convinced of the multiplying effect that the fair will have on commercial activity in the industry in the coming months: “we’ve attracted high-quality visitors and customers with specific projects that need to apply solutions firmly focused on sustainability; this dynamism will be reflected in the sector’s turnover”. In the same vein, Xavier Armengou, the president of the Graphispag organising committee, declared that “with its product range and contents, the graphics event has promoted the incorporation of innovation to reactivate the demand for printed products, thus helping to relaunch the activity of these companies”.

The next Hispack and Graphispag fairs are scheduled for May 2024.
